From Devotion to Warfare - Module 4 | Lesson 4 - Part 1
Scripture Reference: Ephesians 6:10–12

Introduction
“Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God…” (Ephesians 6:10–12, NKJV)
Spiritual warfare is not optional—it is part of the Christian life.
The art of spiritual warfare involves:
Standing in God’s authority
Resisting the enemy
Enforcing the victory of Jesus on the cross
When we stand firm, the enemy has no choice but to flee.
Understanding Spiritual Warfare
Spiritual warfare is not about fear—it’s about authority.
God has already equipped us with:
Spiritual weapons
Authority in Christ
Power through the Holy Spirit
The enemy loses ground when believers:
Stand firm
Refuse to compromise
Operate in God’s power
Seven Foundational Principles of Spiritual Warfare
1. A Wrestling Conflict
Spiritual warfare is real and personal.
The Greek word palé means:
A close, intense struggle
Ongoing engagement
This is not a passive battle. If you don’t stand, you give ground.
2. A Battle Already Won
Victory is not something we fight for—it’s something we fight from.
Through Jesus:
The cross secured victory
The resurrection confirmed it
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper…”
This is a battle you cannot lose—if you stand.
3. A Call to Stand and Resist
We are called to:
Stand firm
Resist the enemy
Use spiritual weapons
When we resist the devil, he must flee.
4. Not a Pursuit of Demons
Spiritual warfare is not about:
Chasing demons
Obsessing over darkness
It is about:
Standing firm
Enforcing Christ’s victory
Focus on God—not the enemy.
5. An Enemy with Strategies
The enemy operates with intention.
The word “wiles” (methodeia) means:
Planned strategies
Organized deception
The enemy seeks to:
Distort truth
Weaken faith
Undermine obedience
6. A Structured Kingdom of Darkness
The enemy is not disorganized.
There is a hierarchy of demonic forces:
Principalities
Powers
Rulers of darkness
Spiritual hosts of wickedness
Their goal: to oppose God’s will and influence the world.
7. The Importance of Showing Up
Spiritual warfare requires participation.
If believers:
Avoid the battle
Stay passive
The enemy gains ground.
Victory comes when we consistently stand.
Know Your Enemy
Understanding your enemy brings clarity—not fear.
Who Is the Devil?
The devil (Satan) was once Lucifer:
A high-ranking angel
Associated with authority and honour
He fell because of pride: “I will ascend… I will be like the Most High.” (Isaiah 14:12–15)
After his fall:
He became Satan (the adversary)
He opposes God and His people
He blinds unbelievers to the truth (2 Corinthians 4:4)
The Kingdom of Darkness Explained
1. Principalities
High-ranking spiritual rulers
Influence regions and systems
2. Powers
Delegated authorities
Enforce the enemy’s agenda
3. Rulers of Darkness
Influence culture and thinking
Promote spiritual blindness
4. Spiritual Hosts of Wickedness
Demonic forces in the unseen realm
Carry out evil and deception
These forces:
Work together
Operate strategically
Oppose God’s purposes
Where Do Demons Come From?
Scripture does not give a single explicit answer, but common views include:
Fallen angels who followed Satan
Spirits connected to rebellion against God
Possible link to pre-flood beings (Nephilim theory)
What is clear:
They are real
They are active
They are defeated through Christ
Victory Through Christ
Even though the enemy is real:
He is defeated
He has no authority over believers who stand in Christ
He cannot overcome God’s power
Your role is not to win the war—Jesus already did that.
Your role is to:
Stand
Resist
Enforce the victory
Living in Spiritual Authority
Spiritual warfare becomes effective when you:
Know your identity in Christ
Stand on God’s Word
Refuse to give the enemy ground
This is not about fear—It’s about confidence in God’s power.
