Demons and Their Origin
Scripture describes demons as fallen spiritual beings who rebelled against God with Satan.
They are referred to as:
Evil spirits (Luke 7:21)
Unclean spirits (Matthew 10:1)
Messengers of Satan (2 Corinthians 12:7)
Their number is vast. In Mark 5:9, a demon identifies itself as “Legion,” indicating many.
What Scripture Reveals About Demons
Demons are:
Conscious and aware
Able to speak and express desires
Fearful of judgment
Capable of influencing people
Able to inhabit humans and animals
While some suggest demons may be linked to the Nephilim (Genesis 6), this is not clearly confirmed in Scripture.
What is certain: They are real, active, and destructive—yet ultimately defeated through Christ.
Satan’s Agenda
Satan’s rebellion began with pride:
“I will ascend… I will be like the Most High.” (Isaiah 14:13)
His mission is clear:
To oppose God
To draw people into sin
To destroy lives
Jesus described it plainly: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” (John 10:10)
His Strategy
Satan:
Steals identity, purpose, and vision
Kills through spiritual separation from God
Destroys through fear, lies, and oppression
He is called:
“The father of lies” (John 8:44)
Summary:
His agenda → Destruction
His method → Deception
His motive → Hatred for God and people
How Satan Works
Satan operates through:
Temptation
Deception
Manipulation
Worldly desires (1 John 2:15–16)
He seeks a foothold (Ephesians 4:27).When given access, this leads to strongholds.
What Is a Stronghold?
Scripture Reference: 2 Corinthians 10:4–5
A stronghold is:
A pattern of thinking
A belief system
A mindset that resists God’s truth
It acts like a fortress in the mind.
Effects of Strongholds
1. Limitations and Hindrances
Like Jericho blocked Israel, strongholds:
Prevent spiritual progress
Limit what God wants to do
2. Hindered Spiritual Growth
Strongholds create:
Repeated struggles
Stagnation
Resistance to truth
3. Negative Emotional Patterns
They can produce:
Fear
Anger
Shame
Depression
They rob believers of:
Joy
Peace
Stability
Who Satan Uses
Satan works through:
Demonic structures
People
Because he is a spirit, he needs human cooperation.
This means:
Even believers can unknowingly be used
Discernment is essential
We must:
Refuse to be tools of the enemy
Fully submit to God
Resisting the Devil—How?
Scripture Reference: James 4:7
“Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
The word resist means:
To stand firmly against
To oppose completely
What This Looks Like
Stand on God’s Word
Declare truth boldly
Reject the enemy’s lies
Walk in obedience
You don’t fight for victory—You stand in victory.
Victory Through the Cross
Scripture Reference: Colossians 2:13–15
Through Jesus:
Sin was cancelled
The enemy was disarmed
Victory was secured
This means:
The enemy has no legal authority
Believers operate from victory
Weapons of Our Warfare
Scripture Reference: 2 Corinthians 10:3–4
Our weapons are spiritual and powerful.
1. Identity & Authority
Your authority comes from:
Your relationship with God
Your identity in Christ
2. Position in God
God is your protection:
A strong tower
A place of safety
3. Praise & Worship
Worship brings victory and shifts atmospheres.
4. Prayer & Fasting
Some battles require deeper spiritual engagement.
5. The Holy Spirit
Guides you
Empowers you
Strengthens you
6. The Blood of Jesus
Victory is secured through the cross.
7. The Word of God
Your weapon of truth
Your defense against lies
8. Taking Authority
Speak with boldness and authority in Jesus’ name.
9. The Armor of God
Truth
Righteousness
Peace
Faith
Salvation
The Word
A Warning: Authority Must Be Real
Scripture Reference: Acts 19:13–16
The sons of Sceva tried to use Jesus’ name without relationship.
The result:
They were overpowered
They had no authority
Key truth: Spiritual authority is not a formula—it comes from relationship with God.
Living in Spiritual Victory
Spiritual warfare is not about fear—it is about:
Knowing your authority
Standing in truth
Walking in victory
When you:
Submit to God
Resist the enemy
He must flee.
